The Guild of the Wheel is a council of eight pagan craftguilds. The Guild's
purpose is to learn, teach, and disseminate handcrafts as a spiritual
discipline, seeing our skill, our talent, and the resources we work with as
a gift from the Gods, and the creating of objects of usefulness and beauty
as a pagan spiritual path of creativity and sacredness. Our hands are all
sacred, as is what they bring forth, if we do it with the right attitude and
mindfulness.
Being a pagan and a craftsman is a dual responsibility. Not only must one
bring things forth that are beautiful or useful or both, one must also bear
in mind that these crafts must be accomplished in such a way that uses
resources wisely and does not harm the Earth or its denizens. All care must
be taken so that one's craftwork adds to the beauty of the world, and does
not litter it equally in turn.
There is also the aspect of craftwork that honors the Ancestors. The crafts
that we practice have declined since the days of our forefathers, and it is
imperative that those crafts - and the lore surrounding them - not be
allowed to die out in this high-tech era. We practice and teach these
crafts, making sure that they will never die. We see them not only as a
pleasure, but as part of a sustainable lifestyle, living gently on the
Earth.
The Guild of the Wheel does not hand out certifications per se, at least not
at this time. To become a member of a guild, you need only participate by
going to meetings and actually practicing the craft. To become a Master of
the craft, you will need to participate and learn until the Guildmaster
decides that you are good enough. You will have to produce a "masterpiece",
and have it shown at a public event.
