Obligations and Standards of the Oath of Fealty for the Realm of Asphodel
By this oath of fealty, the vassal swears to the following duties:
To adhere to the code of chivalry, which is made up of three parts: loyalty, honor, and courtesy.
Loyalty: To value the well-being of the kingdom and its living sacred embodiments, the King and Queen, above all other realms of the Earth, and show this value with actions; to do nothing that would harm the kingdom and to do all that is in one's power to aid it.
To trust in the judgment of the King; to show this trust by performing those duties that the King commands in order to further the goals of the realm with alacrity and obedience, be they in the nature of defense, peacemaking, service to the needy, the delivery of messages, personal service to the King and Queen, or any other thing, providing only that these commands are lawful under the code of the Realm and do not conflict with the edicts of one's gods.
To place the life of one's body, mind and heart at the defense of the Realm in times of war and ill fortune, with courage and prowess.
Honor: To make sacred and inviolable one's sworn word, that any oath sworn to the kingdom never be broken on pain of banishment.
To honor the King and Queen as the living and sacred embodiments of the Realm, to honor one's fellow knights and chatelaines as sisters and brothers worthy of respect and protection in time of need, to protect and defend all other subjects of the Realm as commanded by the King, and to serve the Gods as they speak to you, all with open heart and mind.
Courtesy: To treat all living beings with respect and consideration without judging their deserving; to be gracious and generous of resources, service, and spirit both in times of abundance and in dearth; to be above vengeance and pettiness; to see rank, title, and blessedness as greater responsibility rather than greater privilege, and to hold oneself to this code of chivalry even in the midst of ill treatment and misfortune.
That this oath be so sworn until your lord releases you, or death takes you, or the world ends.
With this oath of fealty, the liege lord takes on the following duties:
To adhere always to the code of chivalry.
To send protection, succor, and aid to his vassal in times of misfortune, and to extend this aid to any members of the vassal's family residing in the kingdom; to equip his vassal with the means to effectively protect and defend the kingdom; to use always his best judgment in matters concerning the well-being of the kingdom and its bondsmen.
To treat vassals with honor and respect; to mediate disputes between them with fairness and justice; to utilize the skills and abilities of the vassal for the goals of the kingdom in a way that honors those skills and abilities rather than degrades or dismisses them.
To grant those boons for the asking to his vassal that are within his power and ability, and do not interfere with the goals of the kingdom or its King.
To reward hard work with abundance, loyalty with love, skill with respect, and oath-breaking with banishment.
To honor this oath until he so chooses to release his vassal from it, or until he dies, or until the world ends.
